EIHL Prediction for 12/10/13
Giants v Steelers
Giants have won 6 out of their 8 games played this season so far & sit 2nd in the EIHL standings early on in the season. They have also just brought in to their roster one of the top British forwards in the game which is a massive boost to the Giants. Giants have a good balanced team this season and they look like they could challenge the likes of the Steelers & Panthers for trophies again this season. This will also be the Giants fans 1st chance to 'welcome' Doug Christiansen back to Belfast after he jumped ship and joined the Steelers at the end of last season.
Steelers have won their last two games in a row, the first time this season they have put together back to back wins. They currently sit 5th in the EIHL standing's. They are a better team then their results have shown so far and it will not be long before Doug Christiansen has they playing and winning consistently night in night out like he did with his previous side the Giants.
Prediction -- Giants to win.. 1st time these two teams have played this season and it should be a cracking game between two evenly matched sides. Giants home advantage and the fact they have a full roster of import plus the return of Peacock makes me think they will be favorites going into this one. This is also my first look at what Steelers enforcer Tim Spencer is like as a player.
.........................................
Clan v Stars
These are the two teams that look like they will be competing for the Gardiner title this season. Clan will be playing just their 2nd game at home this season so far, their previous game in Braehead was a loss to tonight's visitors the Stars 2.1 in the opening game of the season. Clan have a record of 5 losses in 8 games and have this week lost one of their best imports Nathan Moon as he returns to N.A. Clan's boss Ryan Finnerty has said he is looking a replacement for Moon but the Clan will start this game with 2 imports short as Chris Frank also misses this one due to a suspension.
Stars have already beaten the Clan this season in Braehead and are the current EIHL league leaders sitting with a record of 9 wins in 12 games played. Their 3 losses all coming in away games to Erhardt teams. Stars will still be with out Mike Wirll due to injury but will start the game with a full quota of imports.
Prediction -- Stars to win.. Clan are the home side but they will be missing two key imports from the roster. Stars have looked like a well organized team who have gelled together quickly this season and I think they will take this one.
...............................................
Devils v Caps
Devils have lost all 5 of their home games in the BBT so far this season so tonight's game will be a great chance to get that monkey off their back. They currently have a record of 4 wins in 10 games which is not what their fans wanted to see at this stage of the season. Devils will be with out one of the top players as Andrew Lord sit's up with an injury, while Andrew Conboy also misses this game as it's his last of a six game suspension. That's two import short for this game.
Caps have lost 9 out of their 10 games played this season and they currently sit bottom of the league. Their lack of goals in the forwards is a big issues and they are going to struggle all season if things continue the way they are going. Big Dobron will help settle the defense but they need a sniper up front as i can not see where the goals are going to come from for the Caps.
Prediction -- Devils to win.. I feel the Devils have a great chance to take their first home win this season in this game. They already beat the Caps last weekend in Edinburgh and the Devils over the last lot of season have had a great home record against the Caps.
......................................................
Panthers v Blaze
Panthers are the in form team in the EIHL at present and the team Corey Neilson has put together looks more than capable of defending their championship titles this season. They have won 9 of their 10 games this season and are currently on a 7 game winning streak. They also beat tonight's opponents 6.1 in Coventry last weekend. Panthers team is well rounded with a good defense, skilled forwards and plenty of toughness & they are again going to be the team to beat this season.
Blaze were on a 5 game winning streak up until last weekend when they lost to two conference rivals the Steelers and tonight's opponents the Panthers. They will be hoping to get back on track quickly but it's going to be hard for them playing last season's treble winners in Nottingham. If the Blaze are going to get anything from this game then they will be looking to guys like Adam Henrich & Ryan Ginard to have big game. Coventry will be with out top enforcer Benn Olson for this game due to injury.
Prediction -- Panthers to win.. Panthers will start strong favorites after last weekends showing when the two teams met.
.........................................................
Flyers v Rays
Flyers have won their last two games at home and currently have a record of 3 wins in 7 games. Not a great start to the season but things have improved in recent weeks for the Flyers. The return of Matt Nickelson after his suspension has been a major plus for the Scottish side.
Rays have got to find a way to bounce back after one of their top players Derek Campbell was given a massive 47 game ban for an incident with the Dundee Stars last weekend. That ban was longer than many infamous incident's in hockey and the longest in EIHL history. It forced Hull into letting Campbell go but the Stingrays management now have to wait to hear if they will have to play an import short for the rest of the season. I feel they should not as the over the top ban was harsh enough on Campbell and he's now out for the season & the Rays should not be punished further. Rays go into this game having lost 7 games in a row.
Prediction -- Flyers to win.. Flyers are at home and will start this one as favorites.
